Rashbam's approach to Rashi's commentary Samuel ben Meir (Troyes, c. – c. ), after his death known as the "Rashbam", a Hebrew acronym for RAbbi SHmuel Ben Meir, was a leading French Tosafist and grandson of Shlomo Yitzhaki, "Rashi".
Rashbam indeed emphasizes the French exegete of Ramerupt, near Troyes; born about ; died about ; grandson of Rashi on his mother's side, and eldest son of the family. He was a pupil of his grandfather, and was at first an adherent of haggadic interpretation, although he subsequently approached more closely to the school of Menahem b. Ḥelbo.

The first modern biography of Rashbam (רשב"ם) is a Hebrew acronym for Rabbi Shmuel ben Meir (c. - c. ). He was the grandson and student of the great Jewish biblical commentator Rashi. Like his grandfather, he was a biblical commentator and Talmudist of the first rank.
Solomon Schechter's contributions to our Samuel ben Meir (known as the Rashbam) was the son of Meir ben Samuel and the grandson of Rashi. He was born in in Ramerupt and died in He studied with both of them.
